One Footed Ollie This is crazy enough! You ollie and as your leveling out try and kick your back leg out, out as far as you can so its completely off the board and your almost doing the slipts above an ollie! Then you've got to try and get your back foot back on the deck, and belive me try hard because if you dont you might end up landing with the board upright in between your legs! Nasty! Another variation of this that i saw a guy do is roughly the same but kicking your FRONT leg out, which is nuts if you ask me, i dont wanna try it! Pop Shuvit Grab This is fun, I find pop shuvits really hard to land, and this actually helps me out. You pop shuvit, and as the boards just swung right roudn you try and grab the tail with your right [for regular] hand. The longer you grab it the better, i cant even grab it properly, just push it into position under my feet. Old Skool Kickflip I saw Rodney Mullen do this and thought it was amazing, its actually easir than i expected. You kickflip without an ollie - this originated in the old skool days when there wasnt even such thing as an ollie. So, what you do is stand on your board facing forward, with your feet side by side and pointing forwards. I have both feet next to each other pointing straight with the heels just passed the back truck bolts. Now, with whichever foot feels comfiest [i use right] try and 'hook' your foot around the board, it should feel quite secure and comfy. Your heel needs to be on the board while your toes are underneeth. Now, with your other foot just on the board, you need to try and scoop the board up with the foot youve hooked round - your feet dont touch the ground when doing this trick! Try and scoop and flick the board whislt jumping up. just practice, its fun. Just experiment and remember to have fun, thats what skatings all about, friends and fun. Some other ideas might be a 'boneless' which is a laugh, where you grab your board, put your front foot on the ground, and jump up whilst holding the board, then get your front foot back on just before you start comming down. Try adding mad variations like a finger flip or shuvits, or tweeking it [turning 90 degrees, then back]. Have fun, The kickflip originally was done without the ollie. I think a guy from California name Kurt Lindgren invented it. Although I'm not absolutely sure, I think it was invented around 1974-1975 (I know it existed when I started skating in 1975). There are a lot of variations on this trick. Kevin Harris, former Powell-Peralta freestyle skater, is in my mind the greatest master of the kickflip. He could do them landing in a 1-footed tail wheelie, double, triple, fakie landing, etc. All moving pretty fast. Check out some of the freestyle contest videos from the 1980s to see him in action. Kevin was, and probably still is (I have no idea what he's doing now), the one of the smoothest freestyle skaters ever. He style was heavily influenced by the 1970s freestylers, so he was great at spins, wheelies, etc. So, here is the original. You roll forward, move you feet to the middle of the board, use one foot to flip the board as you jump up. Your feet never touch the ground. 1. Rolling forward, move you feet so that they are parallel with the board and in the middle of the board. 2. With whichever foot feels better, use the "inside curve" of your shoe to "hook" the board. Your heel will still be on top of the board, but the inside ball of your foot is under the board. This will allow you to flip it. 3. Now, jump slightly sideways, and at the same time use your foot to flip the board in the same direction you are jumpinnnng In these two frame, the board is flipping, and you are in mid-jump. Notice that the board is moving away from the original center line. Unlike the ollie kickflip, the old-school kickflip moves you to the side. As the board completes the flip, you land on it in a normal riding position, ready to do a 360 shove-it, 2 footed nose wheelie, or similar cool trick. NOTE: Its very easy to land on the edge of the board, slip, and bust your ass on this trick. It takes some practice so you don't overflip or underflip the board How to Heelflip Posted Saturday, August 4, 2001 by ramprage <mailto:webmaster@ramprage.com> Heelflips are actually much harder than Kickflips. The reason is that it's harder to use your heel to spin the board rather than your toes. This trick is a challenging one to master but it's all so sweet when you do. See the Video Clip <http://www.ramprage.com/video/skateboard/hf.mov> 1.) Set your back foot on the middle back of the tail. Set your front foot so 3/4 of it is on the board but so that your toes are hanging over a bit. 2.) Crouch down and then spring up Ollieing as you normally would. Before you get to your maximum Ollie height, kick your front foot out and try to spin the board using your heel, rolling your ancle. 3.) Keep your front foot out so that the board can spin under you. 4.) Bring your front foot back after it's done 3/4 of the rotation to catch the board. 5.) Uncompress your legs and land the trick. Once you do these you will be able to do 180 Kickflips as well. You can do them over obstacles, on flat and onto things such as sidewalks and boxes. See the Video Clip <http://www.ramprage.com/video/skateboard/bspopshuv.mov> 1.) Set your back foot on the inside edge of the tail and your front foot in the middle. Bend your knees and get ready to scissor your feet and Ollie hard. 2.) Ollie hard, snapping down the tail on the inside corner. Make sure to jump high and bring your knees up with you so you get some height. 3.) When you Ollie you need to scissor your feet which will spin the board 180. Kick your back foot inwards and your front foot outwards. 4.) The board will land further in front of you than where you started so you need to jump forwards to catch it. 5.) Stick with the board and stay above it always. 6.) Catch the board with your feet, brining them back. 7.) Stick it. Now try it onto and over things. Once you master these devils you can start 180-360 flips, backside kickflips, frontside kickflips and more. See the Video Clip <http://www.ramprage.com/video/skateboard/kickflip.mov> 1.) Set you front foot on the middle of the board with just your toes touching the board and the rest of your foot haning out. Place your back foot the same as for an Ollie, center back of the tail with a bit of your heel hanging out. 2.) Now this is the tricky part. Snap down the tail as for an Ollie but instead of just sliding your front foot up, kick it down and push your foot outwards (opposite direction of your board). You don't have to do a ninja kick, just flip it with your toes. Do this before you peak your Ollie as your board needs time to rotate in the air. 3.) Keep your front foot out until the board is almost done spinning then bring it back over the board to catch it. 4.) Keep watching the video and you'll get the hang of it. It took me very long before I got my first kickflip, now it's just second nature. This is because you cannot see your landing (backside). They are by far a cooler trick to master though especially backside kickflips. So spend some time on this one because everyone knows it's tough. See the Video Clip <http://www.ramprage.com/video/skateboard/bs180.mov> 1.) Set your back foot on the inside edge of the tail and your front foot in the middle. Bend your knees and get ready to spring up and around. 2.) Now Ollie up and rotate your body making sure your back foot leads the way. Slide up your front foot to help spin yourself around and bring the board up. 3.) Spread your feet apart on the board to stabalize yourself. 4.) Land keep your balance. Get help on this trick at the Discussion Section <http://discussions.ramprage.com/> How to Frontside 180 How to Frontside 180 Posted Friday, July 20, 2001 by ramprage <mailto:webmaster@ramprage.com> Frontside 180's are very fun tricks to do. You can do them down stairs and over objects. After learning this trick you can later try Backside 180's and 360's as well. Then throw in a kickflip and you've got Frontside kickflips. See the Video Clip <http://www.ramprage.com/video/skateboard/fs180.mov> 1.) Set yourself up for a regular Ollie by placing your back foot on the inside edge or your tail and the front foot in the middle/center of the board. 2.) Rotate your arms/shoulders the other way to prepare for the spin. 3.) Throw your arms the direction you want to go and Ollie while turning your body in a 180 motion. 5.) Spread your feet apart and get your balance. 6.) Stick it. Now go try it over some big gaps! I suggest you take lots of time learning this trick because it's used in everything you do. See the Video Clip <http://www.ramprage.com/video/skateboard/ollie.mov> 1.) Find an area that's smooth and easy to roll on. Now crouch down and put your front foot in the middle of your board and your back foot on the tip of the tail. 2.) Snap the tail down hard and jump up, sliding your front foot up sideways on the board. This makes your shoe grab the griptape and pull the board upwards. 3.) Bring the board up with you bending your knees. 4.) Extend your legs and land the Ollie. Get help on this trick at the Discussion Section <http://discussions.ramprage.com/>
